If you want a career working for a friendly and exciting firm of accountants in the heart of Exeter, take a look at our current job vacancies.

Driven By Experience

We are looking for people who are self-motivated, keen to learn, have an attention to detail and like working with a close-knit team. As a family-style run business, our values are open and honest, always looking to support each other.

Everyone has to start somewhere, so we do not expect you to have stacks of experience at the beginning. However, if you are already a chartered accountant and set to go up a level in your career, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Role

The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 5 years practice experience and would already be a client manager or would be aspiring to that level. The successful candidate could be qualified or part qualified and preferably have some recent audit experience. You would also be self-motivated, have an attention to detail, enjoy client interaction and working as part of a close knit team.

There is an opportunity for a hybrid working arrangement. A part time applicant working a minimum of 3 days per week may also be acceptable.

Your duties would involve working for a partner or senior manager and helping with:

  • preparing statutory accounts on IRIS software and using Excel.
  • preparing VAT and tax returns.
  • direct contact with those clients on routine queries such as help with Sage and Xero.
  • managing your workload and meeting deadlines.

The Candidate

You must have good communication skills as there will be client interaction along. We would also prefer you to have recent accountancy practice experience. You will be a team player but also be able to work on your own initiative, as well as having a pleasant and approachable manner.

You must be able to bake a good cake on your birthday!

The Benefits

It’s not all numbers! Here are some perks you can look forward to.

Generous Bonus Scheme

Hard work should always be rewarded, which is why we provide a generous performance-based bonus scheme. If you go above and beyond expectations, we will certainly be taking note.

Flexible Working

We believe that the best work happens when you are comfortable. With the ability for all our employees to enjoy both office and home-based working environments, you can pick a schedule that suits you.

First Class Accounting Software

So we are able to efficiently look after our client’s needs, we always ensure you are using the best accounting software available in the UK. Tried and tested by our experienced partners, you will be trained to a high standard on all applications.

Helping Fund Professional Qualifications

We want to create the best team possible by growing your expertise in your chosen field. You will gain help with paying for accountant qualifications as well as memberships to professional organisations.

Annual Team Events

As a family-style firm, we make sure to take part in activities and events. This is not only great for team bonding but it is a whole lot of fun too. In the past, we have celebrated Christmas, had fun in the sun and enjoyed office socials.

Part-Time or Full-Time

Your career should not have to suffer when you have a family. Since opening in 1992, our employee loyalty has become an important part of Kirk Hills, so we are still committed to you when you are committed to the school run.

Our Recruitment Process

Once you click that apply button, we will review everyone’s applications. In order to get to know you a bit better, we will set up an informal chat on the phone and answer any questions you might have. Following a shortlisting process, we will invite those people to attend a formal interview either in person or over a video call.

Interviews are not only a way for us to know who you are, but for you to see if we are the right fit too. We like to take this a step further and encourage you to attend a trial day to meet the team and see what it will be like day-to-day. If all goes well, we would be excited to offer you a place on our team. Before your first day, you will be set up with a workplace mentor so you can start your new job with complete confidence.
